Soil moisture is a key factor in agriculture, forestry, and natural resource management. In an effort to accurately monitor and measure soil moisture, we developed a prototype sensor-based soil moisture meter. The sensor is placed in the ground to detect the water content contained therein. This tool is also equipped with a microcontroller whose job is to retrieve data from the sensor and display the measurement results on an integrated display. With the prototype of this soil moisture measuring device, it is hoped that it can help farmers, researchers and practitioners in optimizing soil and water management. This tool provides important information for better decision-making regarding crop irrigation, watering and fertilization.Keywords —soil moisture, gauges, prototypes
