Copyright Ownership
Authors who publish in JAAB retain the copyright in their articles. Copyright is not transferred to the journal or to the publisher.
Each article page shows the copyright holders and the year of publication in the form "Copyright (c) [year] [author names]". The same information appears on the published PDF.
Grant of Publishing Rights
By submitting a manuscript and agreeing to its publication, the authors grant the publisher a non-exclusive licence to:
- publish the article for the first time in JAAB, in its online and print editions;
- copyedit, format, and assign a DOI to the article and its metadata;
- distribute, archive, and make the article available in perpetuity, including through indexing and abstracting services;
- issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retraction notices linked to the article under the journal's publication ethics policy.
The article is published under the licence described in Section 02. Because the licence is irrevocable, authors cannot withdraw it after publication.
Author Warranties
The corresponding author confirms, on behalf of all authors, that:
- the article is original, has not been published before, and is not under consideration elsewhere;
- all authors have agreed to publication under the terms of this policy;
- the authors have the right to license the work, and the article does not infringe any copyright or other right of a third party;
- the article contains no confidential organisational or personal data that the authors are not authorised to disclose.
Third-Party Material
If an article includes material owned by someone else, the authors must obtain written permission to publish it under the article's licence before submission. Such material includes figures, tables, photographs, forms, financial statements, and screenshots of proprietary software or documents. Where the owner allows publication but not reuse under that licence, the material must be clearly labelled with its source and the note "not covered by the article licence". The editor may ask authors to provide proof of permission.
Self-Archiving and Sharing
| Version | Where it may be shared |
|---|---|
| Submitted manuscript | Authors may keep it in personal files. Posting it publicly during peer review is discouraged, because it can reveal the authors' identities in a double-blind review. |
| Accepted manuscript | May be deposited in institutional repositories or on personal websites after acceptance. The deposit must state that the article has been accepted for publication in JAAB. |
| Published version | May be deposited without restriction in institutional and subject repositories, on personal and academic profile websites, and in research information systems. |
Any shared version should cite the original publication in JAAB and, once the article is published, link to its DOI.
02Licensing Policy
Article Licence
Articles published in JAAB are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).
The licence statement appears in three places: on each article page, in the article's machine-readable metadata, and on the journal website. The binding terms are those of the full legal code. The summary below is for guidance only.
What the Licence Allows and Requires
| Element | Status | Meaning for users |
|---|---|---|
| Share | Permitted | Copy and redistribute the article in any medium or format. |
| Adapt (derivatives) | Permitted | Remix, transform, translate, or build on the article. |
| Commercial use | Permitted | Sharing and adaptation are allowed for any purpose, including commercial purposes. |
| Attribution (BY) | Required | Give appropriate credit, link to the licence, and indicate whether changes were made, without suggesting that the authors or the journal endorse the use. |
| ShareAlike (SA) | Required | Adapted material must be distributed under the same licence, or a licence listed by Creative Commons as compatible. |
| No additional restrictions | Required | Users may not apply legal terms or technological measures that restrict others from doing what the licence permits. |
Because the licence permits commercial reuse and derivatives, authors should make sure this is acceptable for every element of their article before submission. In particular, check any third-party material and any data provided by partner organisations.
How to Attribute
When reusing a JAAB article, cite the authors, year, title, journal name, volume, issue, pages, and DOI, and state the licence. For example:
If the material was modified, add a statement such as "Adapted from [citation]; changes were made." Each article page offers ready-made citation formats under "How to Cite".
Limitations and Exceptions
- Third-party material labelled as not covered by the article licence may not be reused without the owner's permission.
- The licence does not cover trademarks, logos, or the identity of organisations named in an article. It also does not grant publicity, privacy, or moral rights.
- Uses permitted by law under applicable copyright exceptions do not require compliance with the licence.
Application and Consistency
- The licence is applied when an article is published and stays in force for that version. Later changes to journal policy do not withdraw the licence from articles already published.
- Corrected versions and notices linked to an article carry the same licence as the article.
- If a licence statement on an article page, in its PDF, or in its metadata appears inconsistent, readers and authors are asked to report it through the Contact page so that it can be corrected.
